Any ideas? I noted on the announcement it says we will encounter 'magical creatures' so I'm thinking the riddle may apply to a few different things, then again I may be reading too much into it. The three stanzas could easily apply to three creatures though.

I was pondering boggarts, I'm not sure, but it certainly seems possible. Also, I heard Professor Nacht had Glumbumbles in his office that 3rd years were studying, but the mention of gloom made me think of them.

It has to be said after the shenanigans of the greenhouse the first part makes me think flesh eating slugs...but I somehow doubt it. Pixies of some kind could also be a distinct possibility I would imagine.

Maybe a meeting to discuss the possibilities might be helpful if we can all squeeze one in?

After looking through a couple of bestiary books and using my own knowledge, my current thinking on the riddles are:

Stanza one: Doxy - known as the 'biting fairy', small, not cute and quite commmon - especially in dusty curtains - and definitely doesn't bark.

Stanza two: Pogrebin - the definition is: "They love to follow people around, infusing them with a sense of hopelessness until the human collapses, at which point the pogrebin attempts to devour them. The Pogrebin resembles a grey rock with a small hairy body and it hides by crouching down and pretending to be nothing but a harmless stone." That fits the 'hard, steady and solid' as well as 'munching on gloom'.

Stanza three: Sphinx - they ask riddles and require answers, and they are definitely dangerous.

I think it would be worthwhile meeting, same classroom as last time perhaps - tomorrow after classes?

	I hadn't even though of Pogrebin, good thinking Shin, you are a true Ravenclaw when it comes to these things. After classes sounds good to me, I shall see you in the same room. 	I vaguely remembered reading about them once and when I went back to the bestiary books they seemed the most likely suspects for that riddle. All right, I get the classroom for us as soon as classes are over. (Reply to this) (Parent)
